  • At the game there will be no restroom breaks until after we are settled into the stands.  Everyone should use the restroom before we depart before and after the game.

Please come and support the band and encourage any other friends/family to come to the contest as it is always more enjoyable for the students to perform at a contest with a large cheering section made up of  family and friends.   Family and friends can show their support by cheering louder than any other band’s supporters.  We should hear an especially loud cheer both when they announce our band at the beginning of our performance and at the conclusion of our performance.  Applause is also needed after solos, section features, and big musical or visual moments.  This is not like concert season.  A lot of applause is highly encouraged.

Henry Winston Stadium – Friendswood, TX

This contest is in a prelims and finals format and while we will advance to finals due to the number of bands that will be attending this contest we will not be staying for finals.  We have decided to return to school following our prelims performance so that students can use the extra time to work on homework due to the Thursday football game, the Friday rehearsal, and the UIL sixth week grade check that takes place October 2.

Please come and support the band and encourage any other friends/family to come as it is always more enjoyable for the students to perform at a contest with a large cheering section made up of  family and friends.

If this will be your first time to attend an event at Henry Winston Stadium in Friendswood, allow yourself plenty of time to get parked and into the stadium.  Traffic flow can be very congested and parking is extremely limited.  With buses, trucks, and cars traveling in and out of the area all day, there will be delays.

Excused Absences for Rehearsals

There are many puzzle pieces that must fit together correctly in order to have a successful band program that students and parents can enjoy and be proud to be a part of.  One of those puzzle pieces is student attendance at all rehearsals and performances.  This is an extremely important puzzle piece because band is a team activity and when any one person is missing it negatively affects all of the other members.  The reason for this is because at band rehearsals students are learning how their parts and marching fit with everyone else.  This is not something that students can learn at home, no matter how much they practice.  The individual may be able to succeed on his own, but until they and the people around them learn how to make things fit together, the puzzle cannot be completed.

More and more often we have noticed that more students are absent from Saturday morning rehearsals than rehearsals that take place during the week.  Because of this we are now requiring a doctor’s note for absences from all rehearsals.  If a student is sent home by the school nurse, that will be excused.  We apologize if this causes any inconvenience, but there are some who take advantage of the system we have in place.  When students sign up for band, they have made a commitment to adhere to the rehearsal schedule set forth.  When we all work together, great things can happen!
