Night of Jazz

The Clear Springs High School Jazz Band invites you to a Night of Jazz on the evening of Monday, May 20. Come to the band hall and enjoy live jazz and coffee. Feel free to bring your dinner to enjoy during the performance. Don’t miss the great music and one of the rare opportnities you get to eat in the band hall!

Spring Concert

Our final concert of the year is coming up and everyone is cordially invited to attend and support the students as it is always more enjoyable for the students to perform to a packed house with loud applause.

Coffee and dessert treats will be provided by McDonald’s (from FM 518 & 528). No food or drinks in the PAC, please.

Don’t forget to get roses for your favorite performers! You can purchase single roses on the night of the performance while supplies last.

NEW: There will be a donation box outside the PAC for the collection of items to aid the people in crisis in Venezuela. Click HERE for details.

This concert will be a great concert for the whole family. As a special treat, along with the Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble, students who were judged “Best of the Room” at this year’s solo and ensemble recitals will be performing their solos and/or ensembles.

This will also be the last time our seniors will perform with The Clear Springs Charger Band.  This means that this concert could be the last time some of these seniors will ever play with a band again, so all family members and friends won’t want to miss it.

Important notes for students and parents:

Uniforms will be worn:

  • Boys – Tuxedo Jacket, tuxedo pants, tuxedo shirt, black bow tie, black cummerbund, long black socks, black dress shoes or black marching shoes.
  • Girls – black band dress, black close toed shoes with an inch or less heel.

UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Contest

The students have been working hard in class and after school, with dress rehearsals and clinics, all culminating in the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Contest which is happening next week! The students have been working hard for several months now preparing for the UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Contest which is right around the corner.  Before they perform at Clear Lake H.S. for judges, they will be performing their contest music at Pre-UIL concerts as a dress rehearsal.

And double-check the calendar for time adjustments. Although unlikely, the preliminary times listed here are subject to change. Important notes for students and parents:
  1. Student attire for the Winter Concert is as follows:
    • Men: Collared shirt, slacks/khakis, dress shoes, ties are optional.
    • Women: Collared shirt, slacks/khakis or business-length skirt, dress shoes.
    • No jeans nor athletic wear/shoes may be worn.
    • Santa hats will be allowed.
  2. Call time for Symphonic and Concert Bands is 6:15 PM –
    Concert band on Stage and Symphonic in the band hall.
  3. Call time for Wind Ensemble is 7:00 PM in the Orchestra Room.
  4. Concert Band and Symphonic Band members are to stay and watch the remainder of the concert once they have finished performing.
  5. Coffee and dessert treats will be provided by McDonald’s (from FM 518 & 528). No food or drinks in the PAC, please.
  6. Roses will be available for your favorite performer as you enter the PAC. Recommended donation is a minimum $3 per rose. You may also contact Daisy to reserve yours in advance and pick them up at the concert when you drop off your donation:  dadunkle@yahoo.com.  Please contact Daisy no later than Monday, 12/10, for reserved roses!
  7. The 2018 Charger ornaments will be available for purchase for $10 each.  You will want the collection for each year your child is in band!

Concert Uniform Fittings

UPDATE: Uniform fittings will take place after the winter break.

Concert uniform fittings & check-out will take place during class when students return from the Thanksgiving break, 11/26-30.  Bring your garment bag to keep your uniform nice and cozy till you get home. Uniform hems may need to be adjusted.  Please DO NOT CUT them if they are too long. A simple whip stitch hem will work for both men’s pants and ladies’ dresses.  See the links below for a video on how to hem concert blacks, and another good video that will show you how to “catch stitch” pants and preserve the crease. Required uniform items that will need to be provided from home are included below.

For our concerts you will need the following items:

Boys:
  1. Long black socks
  2. Black dress shoes (black marching shoes are also acceptable)
  3. White tuxedo shirt
  4. Black bow tie
  5. Black Cummerbund
  6. Tuxedo pants (school owned)
  7. Tuxedo jacket (school owned)
Girls:
  1. Black closed toed shoes with 1 inch or less heel
  2. Concert dress (school owned)

No jewelry is to be worn and any hair ties must be black.

This concert is looking to be a great concert for the whole family. The evening will begin with the Wind Ensemble performing their UIL Contest music, which we will be recording in order to submit an entry for the TMEA Honor Band Competition.  Following that performance will be the Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and then Wind Ensemble again performing new music.

This will also be the last time our seniors will perform with The Clear Springs Charger Band.  This means that this concert could be the last time some of these seniors will ever play with a band again, so all family members and friends won’t want to miss it.

This evening will also be professionally recorded so the Wind Ensemble can submit for Honor Band and an additional competition.  A quiet environment during the music is required.

Last Chance! FREE GSO Tickets

The Galveston Symphony Orchestra is offering FREE tickets  for all students to the April 22, 2018 Galveston Symphony Orchestra performance. The concert is themed From Youthful Passion to Artistic Salvation and will feature works by Jules Massenet, Camille Saint-Saëns, and Dmitri Shostakovich. This is the final performance of the seasaon, so don’t miss out!

Tickets are obtained by sending an email to Alice O’Quin, aliceoquin@gmail.com by Thursday, February 8th.

Each student may invite an adult, who will also receive a free ticket.
Students attending Galveston College, UTMB, and A&M-Galveston may also request FREE tickets.

Email your request for tickets no later than Thursday and when your request is accepted you will get a reply email confirmation. Your tickets will be available for pick-up between 3:00 and 3:45pm on the day of the concert in Edna’s Room (right next door to the Grand’s main entrance).

FREE Galveston Symphony Tickets

The Galveston Symphony Orchestra is offering FREE tickets  for all students to the February 11, 2018 Galveston Symphony Orchestra’s performance. The concert will feature works by Aagaard-Nilsen, Sibelius and Tchaikovsky. The Tchaikovsky violin concerto will feature soloist Angelo Xiang Yu.

Each student may invite an adult, who will also receive a free ticket.
Students attending Galveston College, UTMB, and A&M-Galveston may also request FREE tickets.
